Alex Yudzon

After emigrating from Russia to America during the waning years of the cold war, Alex Yudzon's work has become both a blending of two cultural influences and an exploration of the contradictions and overlaps inherent in them. Using a rich vocabulary of images and materials Yudzon communicate a variety of narratives that give the sense of having been constructed from a multitude of sources. Works, such as the pieces in Seed Images, use iconic Russian imagery to revisit the failed ideals of the Soviet era, The Great American Novel presents a series of absurd narratives that tell the story of both immigration and invasion, while the series Atlas and Impossible Cloud speak to the ephemerality of nations and the impossibility of return. Together these works form a complex array of approaches that constitute Yudzon's attempt at making sense of a reality divided between two vastly different cultural perspectives.
